Position Summary

The Software Engineer will design, develop, integrate, and verify mission-critical software systems supporting defense and commercial applications. This position requires expertise in embedded and real-time systems, strong programming skills, and a disciplined approach to software development consistent with aerospace and defense standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, adaptable, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and test embedded and application-level software components for mission-critical systems.
  • Support all phases of the software development lifecycle (requirements analysis, design, coding, integration, and verification).
  • Develop and maintain software documentation, including requirements, design descriptions, and test plans.
  • Apply software engineering best practices, including configuration management, version control, and peer reviews.
  • Collaborate closely with systems, hardware, and test engineers to ensure seamless integration of hardware-software interfaces.
  • Utilize software verification and validation processes consistent with DO-178C and related standards.
  • Participate in system-level integration, troubleshooting, and performance optimization activities.
  • Contribute to automation and continuous integration (CI/CD) pipelines to enhance software delivery efficiency.
  • Support fielded system updates, defect resolution, and lifecycle maintenance.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or Computer Science with at least five (5) years of experience in one or more of the domain areas listed below; or,
In lieu of a degree, at least ten (10) years of relevant experience in one or more of the domain areas listed below.

  • Experience developing and implementing tools to conduct requirements management and traceability
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) using Cameo
  • Experience with C/C++, Python and Microsoft Developer Studio
  • Experience with Integration and Test engineering, with test automation methods
  • Experience with SW verification methods and practices
  • Experience with DO-254 and DO-178
  • Experience with Real Time Operating Systems
  • Strong technical writing proficiency

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills, with demonstrated ability to produce clear and accurate engineering artifacts.
  • Proficiency with EDA tools such as Altium, OrCAD, or KiCad.
  • Experience with lab test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, etc.).
  • Excellent problem-solving ability and teamwork orientation.
  • US Citizenship Required

 

Compensation Statement (New York Pay Transparency Notice)

In accordance with New York State’s pay transparency requirements, the anticipated annual salary range for this position is $102,000 to $120,000. This range represents a good-faith estimate of the base salary that Thunderbolt Solutions reasonably expects to pay for this role at the time of posting.

Final compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the position, relevant experience, education, certifications, specific technical skills, internal equity, and current market conditions.
This position may also be eligible for a company bonus and comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, paid time off (PTO), and a 401(k) retirement plan.
